I'm having a few problems trying to understand the benefits of the Reaper system over the "stop or pause" on say, Logic. I can't see the wood for the trees?

depending on how things are set up ... generally stop will 'rewind' the play cursor back to where the edit cursor is [was] when you started Play... Pause on the other hand, will just pause the play cursor where it is and then continue playing from that point onward... You can change which key bindings [hot keys] do these in the actions list... Normally Play\Stop is the space bar [but it don't have to be] I have Pause set to work from the "P" key... but it don't have to be...

I understand that, but I can't see the benefit over the standard system, it gets in the way sometimes...

what exactly is 'the standard system' you are used to? and what exactly is it that you want to have happen? the thing about reaper is that a user can pretty much choose how they want things to work...

White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters. I like Coupes.

Just go into the actions menu and re-assign the space bar to pause instead of stop. That will give you the behaviour you want. The standard Reaper way is actually very useful for those who want the edit cursor to stay put until manually moved. There are a variety of reasons to want that; I've always found the way Logic does it a little bit annoying.............if one hits play, then stop and wants to play from the same place again, one is forced to re-wind - this can be inconvenient.
